Regulations covering the bulk carriage of UN 3291 type clinical waste for processing and disposal come into effect on January 1, 2009. Clinical waste transported to alternative treatment and incineration sites must be carried in approved containers. Plastic waste bags used for this must be sealed, leak proof and tested for solids of packing group II. Contents should not exceed 30KG. Markings must be in accordance with the regulations and provide a visual confirmation that bags have passed tests for bulk transport as defined in the current RID/ADR and IMDG code requirements.
